This conference is organized by the Museum Fünf Kontinente in Munich (Dr. Hilke Thode-Arora) and the Institut für Kunstgeschichte Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (Prof. Dr. Antoinette Maget-Dominicé), in collaboration with the International Society for Research on Art and Cultural Heritage Law (ISCHAL).
Fifteen years after the adoption of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, debates on the location and places of conservation of cultural property are rekindling attention to the link between the tangible and the intangible. This interdisciplinary and international colloquium aims to stimulate exchanges between academic researchers, heritage curators, practitioners and the amateur public in order to address, through law, ethnology and art history, issues related to the understanding and safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, as well as its access.
